HotPOP - Free POP3 Email

Without notice, HotPop discontinued its free accounts. For weeks, I wondered why I wasn't getting any mail from them, and why it took nearly a full minute for my POP3 client to connect to their server. I got no error messages, and I got no mail. Then I visited the site, and was unable to sign on. I tried opening a new account, to discover that the free account option was no longer available. When the service was free, it was worth the price. Now, I hope they go out of business. Shameful.

I've tried all sorts of email services and these are the absolute worst. They're so insecure about the service actually working that they keep sending you emails which are designed to test that it is doing so. However, you can receive these, but still the service doesn't work. Do not use.

The only thing this site is good for is its use as a dead email box -- because it still shows up as a good email address -- sad though because the service was once good

I used HotPOP for years. It was one of the best free email sites around. Late Spring 2009 I started getting complaints that I wasn't answering email. I started sending cc:, carbon-copy, emails (back ups to be sure mail was going out and coming in.) These cc's were dropping off at a fantastic rate by September 2009. (3 out of 5 weren't coming back.) By the mid of October 2009 no email came in or out of by box. I sent in complaints through their service address. No answer until late December 2009 - A form letter saying they valued their customers. I deleted my email address with them after that.

After many happy years with hotPOP, I'm seeing increasing outages, and is effectively dead at the moment. All my eMails for weeks have been bouncing. Alas for a great service, now passed away.
