The Bayesian filter works by learning from your classifications, and from the mistakes it makes. But don't be afraid, it learns quickly and makes very few mistakes after some training.
While you can use your existing mail to teach the filter in PocoMail, it's best to train it with new messages alone, as you use it. This prevents it from picking up old dates as characteristic of good mail, for example.
Train the PocoMail Spam Filter as You Use It
To train the PocoMail spam filter as you use it:
- Press Ctrl-Shift-- (the Ctrl, shift and minus keys together) if a junk email makes it to your In mailbox.
- Alternatively, use the File as Junk toolbar button or select Message | Junk Mail Filtering | Classify As Junk And Move from the menu.
- Press Ctrl-Shift-+ if you find a good message in the Junk Mail folder.
- The alternatives, again, are using the Classify as Good toolbar button or select Message | Junk Mail Filtering | Classify As Good from the menu.
Both commands automatically move the message — to the Junk Mail folder and the In folder respectively. To classify multiple messages, highlight them and use the keyboard shortcut or menu command.
