Agree About the Format Before Sending an Attachment

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Attachments are great stuff, and with their help it's easy to share documents, images, songs and what not.

Yet, the best attachment becomes worthless — and I'm sure you have exerienced that yourself already — if the recipient cannot open it. An Excel spread sheet without Excel (or OpenOffice.org) to open it is not worth the hard disk space it occupies.

Agree About the Format Before Sending an Attachment

This is why you should

  • agree with the recipient about the format of an attachment before you send it.

If you find it difficult to find a program both of you have, see if you can export the file to something the recipient can open.
