Enter Traylook, enter system tray popup notification. Not only can you specify the location, color and gradient direction of the Traylook notification window, it's also possible to specify the Outlook folders you want get new mail notifications for. Of course, you can also define a notification sound.
Unfortunately, none of these options can be combined with filtering, to make Traylook announce special messages in a special way, for example. And, as useful as the Traylook pop-up is, cycling through all the new messages, it would be nice if individual emails could be dismissed manually or deleted right from the notification window.
Nice like the Traylook tray icon, which provides fast access to oft-used Outlook commands (like "New Mail...").
