The Bottom Line
If you need both Pegasus Mail and S/MIME security, PM-S/MIME is the way to go, but the plug-in offers little comfort and only rudimentary functionality.

Pegasus Mail comes with great support for PGP compatible message security built-in, but S/MIME is the more widely adopted "standard" (especially in the corporate world), and extending Pegasus Mail's encryption architecture to support it is certainly desirable. PM-S/MIME is a plug-in that does this, but unfortunately only in a very basic way.While you can successfully encrypt, sign, verify and decrypt messages with PM-S/MIME and Pegasus Mail, this requires some work. For example, PM-S/MIME doesn't offer any key management (you can import keys quite comfortably, though), and to read an encrypted email, you have to tweak its settings.
Additionally, PM-S/MIME had some unexpected error messages for me that weren't all too informative.
