New senders are sent a challenging message. If they respond to the challenge, they are authorized and their mail gets through. Usually, people who do want to reach you will respond while spammers won't.
Newsletters are somewhere in between. They send you mail that you want to receive, but their editors can't manually authorize with all their subscribers (often hundreds of thousands of addresses).
To make sure you'll continue to receive all your favorite senders, you can manually authorize the newsletter in Mailblocks. It's easy, and I've done it for all About newsletters immediately after signing up, for example.
To make sure Mailblocks doesn't block newsletters as spam:
- Select the addresses tab in Mailblocks.
- Click New.
- Type the address or domain you want to whitelist under Email:.
- To make sure you're receiving all About newsletters, for example, type "@about.com".
- Optionally enter the newsletter's name under Last name:.
- Make sure Accept mail from this address is selected under Receiving Options.
- Uncheck Display in people picker under Other options.
- Click Submit.
- Click OK.
As a very useful alternative, you can also subscribe to the newsletter using a Mailblocks Tracker.
