How to Set the Mac OS X Mail Toolbar to Show Icons Only

Icons plus a descriptive text is redundant. If toolbar icons are not self-explanatory they fail their purpose.

The icons in Mac OS X Mail's toolbar are pretty self-explanatory, but the text is still turned on by default. Fortunately, it's easy to change that and save some screen real estate, too.

Set the Mac OS X Mail Toolbar to Show Icons Only

To make the Mac OS X Mail toolbar show icons only:

  • Click anywhere on the Mac OS X Mail toolbar while holding down the Ctrl key.
  • Select Icon Only from the menu.
