Create Folders for Organizing Mail in KMail

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

I love my KMail inbox, really. But all kinds of emails (that do not belong together) seem to love it, too, and gather there, making it difficult for me to get to the message I'm looking for quickly.

Fortunately, KMail needs not consist of the inbox folder only. You can create as many folders as you like to keep your messages organized and easy to find.

To create a folder in KMail:

  • Select Folder | New Folder... from the menu.
  • Type the name of your folder.
  • Under Belongs to:, select under which folder KMail should place the new one.
    • If you want a top-level folder, make sure Top Level is selected.
    • If you want to create a sub-folder, select the folder under which the new folder should appear.
  • Click OK.

To make the folder you have created easier to spot, you can assign a custom icon to it.
