How to Create Perfectly Formatted Emails and Replies with FastMail

By , About.com Guide

As useful as web-based email is, another truth about a web interface to emails (and to writing emails and replies in particular) is that it often still lacks fundamental formatting power.

It is not uncommon for replies from a web-based account to be a complete mess with '>' characters where they should not be, broken lines, empty space that can't be explained and other formatting woes. There are two exceptions: the sender has invested a lot of time and effort to format their reply properly, or — they use FastMail.

FastMail provides a very powerful tool that fixes broken formatting, can fix, indent and re-wrap quoted text, formats bullet lists, and more.

Create Perfectly Formatted Emails and Replies with FastMail

To re-format emails and replies (or any other text) intelligently with FastMail:

  • Click the Format button.
    • If you cannot find the Format button in the message header area:
      • Follow the Advanced Screen link to show it or:
      • Click on the -Actions drop-down menu at the bottom of the screen.
      • Select Format.
      • Click Do Action.
  • Continue editing your FastMail message, or send it right away.

Exclude a Line from Re-formatting

What if you want to exclude a line from automatic formatting in FastMail? No problem.
