How to Forward a Message Inline with Evolution

By , About.com Guide

I prefer forwarding mail as an attachment in Evolution, but the classic way of forwarding mail inline — offset by markers similar to "-----Forwarded Message------" — has its uses, too.

Most importantly, it's the most simple way of sharing mail and makes sure just about everybody can read the forwarded mail. Forwarding inline also lets you edit the forwarded message slightly, removing Cc: addresses for example, or trimming overly long paragraphs. In Evolution, forwarding a message inline is easy.

Forward a Message Inline with Evolution

To forward an email message inline with Evolution:

  • Highlight the message you want to forward in its folder.
  • Select Actions | Forward | Inline from the menu.
    • Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Shift-Ctrl-J (do you know any mnemonic association to help me remember that?).
    • If forwarding inline is your default in Evolution, you can also use the Forward toolbar button or press Ctrl-F.
  • Address and annotate the forwarded message.
  • Finally, click Send to deliver it.
