At two in the morning, three or four — maybe five — of Massassoit's men rode off to Patuxet with a note; Edward Winslow had sent for a bottle to drink and "also for chickens to make [...] broth".
Fortunately, the broth was not necessary, and Massassoit kept the chickens for breeding. The chicken soup, of course, was to nourish the Wampanoag sachem to health — but Winslow's other measures had already restored him sufficiently in the mean.
Though not exactly a boy any more at the time, Edward Winslow was a pilgrim who, I'm sure, would have appreciated a pumpkin pie such as this:
