I think Gmail is quite well organised and easy to use. However, someone I know does some work on a geneology forum. A while ago there were large problems with spam and people putting porn and viruses on the website. It was always there to some extent but it got so bad that they had to do something. They, and their colleagues, noticed that almost all the people who were doing these things were using gmail accounts, and hardly any of the people who were using the forum correctly used gmail accounts. They temporarily blocked gmail users from joining, and found the problem was massively reduced. Since then, they have had to do the same thing many times to stop people abusing the forum. I think gmail often has a bad reputation as many of the people who used it use it badly. Because of this, I think it advisable to use an alternative email server, such as hotmail, either instead of or as well as a gmail account.
