4 out of 5A handy email program.November 02, 2011

Windows Mail works on both Windows Vista and Windows 7. And is handy to have and supports all email accounts, including GMail and Hotmail accounts. And also has many different ways to customise your messages, different style fonts and text colors. And Windows Mail has a junk mail filter unlike Outlook Express which did not.

After using Windows Mail for a couple of years, it began using very large fonts when printing an email text. Couldn't find a solution for that. Yesterday, the problem solved itself. Now it won't print emails at all. Every other one of the scores of application programs all print to the same printer just fine, but Windows Mail won't print, and there are no error messages. The printouts don't appear in the printer Que - they just disappear. Looks like it's Eudora time.

I like Windows Mail a lot. The Phishing filter works very well, and as far as for it's organizational capabilities, you can group things by conversation, and you can either use one or more of the rules or views provided, and/or easily create your own custom rules. It's fast, it's very easy to sort things and search for things, and many ways to tweak it to your taste. It works perfectly for me. I don't care much for Windows Live Mail, but I do like Windows Mail.

This is the email program included with Windows Vista and is supposed to replace the dated Outlook Express email program that came with most earlier versions of Windows including XP. Not sure why the original reviewer rated this so high because even Microsoft will not support this program. Instead they highly recommend that you use the Windows Live Mail program (which is also free). You can read about it and download it at the following link, http://download.live.com/wlmail. (you will have to cut and paste this internet address into your browser) Windows Mail 6 is unstable, has inherent bugs and problems that are not being rectified. It may work fine for some but do you really want to use an unsupported, unupdated program that in all likely hood is highly susceptible to attacks, malware and whatever else is lurking out there. Maybe the original reviewer should put some time looking at just how good Windows Live Mail is. I have used both Windows Mail 6 and Windows Live Mail. I much prefer and highly recommend Windows Live Mail over Windows Mail 6.
