5 out of 5The New Hotmail for a New AgeNovember 30, 2011
By wsblevins
At one time, Hotmail was known as the armpit of email services and with good cause. Fortunately for Microsoft, those days are long gone. In a time when smartphones reign as the primary tool for using email, Hotmail stands well above the rest with it's Microsoft Exchange providing instantanious push to mobile devices. That, along with it's much improved web interface as well as spam filtering, it provides everything one would need for those serious about their email. I won't even go into the other bonuses such as SkyDrive for file storage. Simply put, it blows Gmail out of the water.
2 out of 5Feature loaded but limits on e-mail sentOctober 10, 2011
By MARKPEARSONTN
Many good features such as online Office 2011 and messanger. Problems with allowing you to send more than 5 emails at once. Have had my account suspended for sending 39 e-mails at once and then saying that more usage will allow more e-mails to be sent or pay for the service. Been on Hotmail for several months and that doesn't seem to increase the outgoing volume either. Over done spamming worries. I only use the Hotmail for responding or sending e-mail to Yahoo groups not individuals. If you are a lite e-mailer this may be good for you but otherwise go somewhere else.

I was also hacked and then blocked from my account. Hotmail provides no help and if you use their on-line process they are rude and don't even care about the fact it was their poor security that caused the problem. Hotmail just keeps your information and ignores you. If you look at their online questions you will see that there are too many people in the same position. For your own online safety avoid Hotmail like a plague!
1 out of 5Only email that I have had that was hackedAugust 20, 2011

I had hotmail for a few months and during that time, it was hacked. The hacker was using my email to send work from home emails to everyone in my contacts. This is the only email that I have ever had this issue. And now it will not allow me to close the account because it says there is some account opened against it AND I can not get one person from Hotmail to assist me.

I used hotmail for about 10 years with the same account and password and never had a problem then one day I was suddenly without warning blocked out of my own mail. I was asked a lot of questions and I complied with answers. I have kept filling the forms over and over answering the same questions as they keep promissing to unblock my account and have provided my alternative email but still they are not helpfull. For this case I dont recommend hotmail email as I have lost most of my contacts and corespondence. Shame upon you hotmail as have LOST ALL my dear things. I and my generation will never ever use hotmail again as I feel violated as like someone stole all my stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used hotmail for 16 years with the same account and password and never had a problem then one day I was suddenly without warning blocked out of my own mail. I was asked a lot of questions and I complied with answers.Over and over answering the same questions as they said they couldn't tell if I was the owner of the account and then I was told to get a new hotmail account but I had family photos and emails that I wanted to keep and also I had not written down all my email friends email address and I LOST ALL !!! I will NEVER use hotmail again as I feel violated as like someone stole all my stuff !! There was nothing bad in my email but I sure wanted my grand baby and wedding photos that I had stored there just in case my computer crashed ,I thought I could always count on my email being there when-ever or where-ever I was on who's ever computer I used, that hotmail would not fail me ,BOY WAS I WRONG !

I would never suggest or recommend this email address! I signed up once and next time i couldn't login no matter if username and password were correct. I tried many times ever since but didn't work out. I asked others and had the same problem. Nobody solves it or they just don't care.

It's got the best IM you can ever find. Their mail server is simple and not complicated, but enough to keep things tied up. Far easier than gmail's conversation to separate mails, although no tag, but you can search mail by kep word that more than enough. I used hotmail accross the workd since 1998 and had no complaints!
1 out of 5Very frustratingJanuary 05, 2011

I converted from XP w/Outlook to Win7 & Live Mail. Bad decision! Live Mail seems to be okay as far as getting around the icons and such. But, the typing delay: what you type on the keyboard and what appears on the monitor a second or so later is very frustrating. The same is true with backspace, which you must use almost as regular typing because of the mistakes. Then I downloaded Mozilla-Firefox. That types fine but will not import all my email addresses, over 100. No solution for that either. I'm still looking for a good, free email program. Any suggestions?
1 out of 5windows live idDecember 14, 2010

While I have had window live id now for three years and really had no complaints until now. Several time now I have tried to log on to my e-mail account ( I checked the the remember my password box) and yet I still had to enter the password. Next up comes invalid password or e-mail address entered. I proceed to enter my e-mail and pass word. Then I get invalid password. I keep entering my password until I am locked out. So then I go to reset my password, answer the secret question again, invalid answer. I am all for security and everything, but come on, I had to go through sign on to their forum and filling out the questions on name, address, etc. Then they give you a number to log on to their dumb forum (dumb because you have to search through thousands of possible problems others are having that is simular to yours, which you neve can find). I have done that four or five time ( which is supposed to take up to 72 hours to do) Yeah right, in their wildest dreams. The last time I tried to log on was 12-3-2010 and I still haven't heard from them. Needless to say there is no customer service number to call and actually talk with someone, yeah right, that is a laugh. If you don't mind no customer service then I guess windows live or hot mail is okay, but heaven for bid if you get locked out.
1 out of 5Down for Maintenance... againNovember 08, 2010
By klpenton
My Hotmail account has been inaccessible for more than 15 hours due to maintenance. While I pay for Hotmail PLUS , there is no tech phone support available and no indication when the service will be up again. I will be moving my email away from Hotmail at first opportunity. When I express my frustration to others and did a little research, it seems other's already know what I am learning.. I no longer consider Hotmail reliable and would not recommend this service... free or otherwise ... to anyone.
1 out of 5Changes to hotmailSeptember 30, 2010
By yvonnerr
I hate the recent changes to hotmail - it's a mess - so difficult to keep track of emails which seem to be clumped together so its not always clear you have a reply especially if you send a group email. But then other times the email you reply to disappears from your inbox and emails put to draft seem to randomly disappear too. What's going on - it seems such an unnecessary change and such a muddle now. The system worked perfectly well before - please do something to reverse the changes

Over 10 years ago. I had hotmail account for about 8 or 9 years, and I had all my contacts, and other personal details. Back than they had 30 days policy, which means if you dont login then they will remove or delete your account. So I decided to go on holiday and returned there was no email account. Lost details of friends for the last 8 or 9 years. Sorry never again. BIG mistake. This stuff was so important to me even if they asked me to pay for this data. Then I would have done so. I think its always wise to make a backup of such details. Is it really FREE? They will always make that decision...

I was looking to start an email account to be used with my preschool parents. I sent out my forst few emails to about 1/2 of my parents and now my account is blocked from sending any more emails. It is impossible to reach anyone from customer service. it is all done thru a communication forum. I have been trying to have my email unblocked for 3 days now and have been unsuccessful. I now have to find another email server to support our preschool. I am very frustrated and would NOT recommend Windows Live!!!
1 out of 5email programFebruary 02, 2010

I previously had Windows XP with email through Outlook Express. When I bought a new computer with Windows 7, I was told it did not have Outlook. I sincerely thought it would have something similar if not better. No, I was told to download Windows Live. I have never felt so out of touch with people. I cannot forward a received email to another person - I can't even find programs that let me create a new email, let alone send a photo or document in a file on my computer to someone. How do I save an incoming email to a file, view emails previously deleted, or even establish an address book. Where are the instructions for this program? Since this is seen by the public I cannot really express how hateful the program is. I cannot believe that all the wizards that created W7 thought they had made something so wonderful.
1 out of 5Limit of 128 Email Subfolders! Be warned!December 11, 2009
By 1867BNA
A couple of months ago, I decided to consolidate all my email business into one account in Hotmail. For this purpose, I spent a long couple of weeks changing emails & passwords in all my forum and web accounts, in order to redirect all mail from them into my new Hotmail. I was having a wonderful time ORGANIZING all my business into the Hotmail subfolders.... with tons still yet to be done... when suddenly, Hotmail refused to MAKE any more subfolders!!! I still had MANY forums, accounts, and subject-matters that each needed a folder. Hotmail's Help forum disclosed that there is a LIMIT of 128 sub-folders in the new Hotmail accounts -- this is different from the old Hotmail accounts where there was NO limit. So now I am stuck with a random clog of mail on all sorts of subjects piling up in my Inbox, unable to open any more folders to FILE it. I would NOT recommend Hotmail at this time to people with LOTS of mail to organize, or who think they would like to CENTRALIZE their business in one account. Moreover, there is a feature in Hotmail which lets you link Hotmail accounts together.... if you have a lot of them, with long secure 16-digit passwords... you will have to MANUALLY type and retype those passwords to activate the link, it won't let you CUT AND PASTE your passwords to do this.... therefore, I gave UP trying to do it, and I am not linking my Hotmail accounts together due to the long, laborious, error-fraught task of manually inputting all my existing STRONG 16-figure passwords.
5 out of 5Best email serviceOctober 03, 2009
By saurabhaggarwal
I have been using Hotmail and Gmail both. I also own a website which sends mail when user submit their information. I never use to receive new user registartion information on Hotmail but Gmail shows that mail. Although some times it frustates me but if we think in positive way then it shows that Spam guard of Hotmail is much more better than Gmail. my gmail box use to fill with lots of junk mails but Hotmail rarely showed me any mail in Inbox which is junk. People use to say that Hotmail don't have tags to organize mail. But tag feature really give you pain when you try to download mails using POP. Tags will not work and your all mails whether it is in inbox or sent items. All will be displayed in Inbox only (anybody want to say thanks to tags).
4 out of 5Windows Live mail - simple, safe, enjoyableJuly 13, 2009

I simply can't agree with - or respect - those ""reviewers"" who can hardly put two words together, let alone give the rest of us a decent review. In my view, Windows Live Mail is excellent, user-friendly and very pleasing to the eye. What's more, it's pretty safe too - in three months, I've not had one bit of spam make it to my inbox. I like too the feature which stops any unknown sender's mail from showing, giving you the option of either blocking or opening, and adding that person to your safe senders' list. My only slight gripe is of very much a personal preference. When adding a new mail folder, you can't add a folder within a folder, for example if it's co-related Also, you can't be too liberal when naming new folders - there are certain characters you can't use, such as ! ? /. Slightly annoying, but that's just me. This is the only feature which stops me giving the whole thing five stars. Overall, an excellent free email client. I also have a Google account, which a lot of people seem to go for and prefer, but for me, Windows Live mail tops it.

1 out of 5It deleted me againJune 26, 2009

Yesterday I typed a huge long e-mail to a Friend who has just moved over seas, it took me over an hour to write and when I was finally finisheed it deleted the whole thing, I then looked all through the sent, deleted and junk folders which told me that I haven't ever sent or deleted a message ever (I'm constantly deleting old mail). This is not the first time this has happened. hotmail has many useless features and takes ages to load even on a very new computer, the spam protection is bad and when you sign in it shows you a page of advertisements before you can get to your e-mail. the only features I found that I liked about it was the ability to foreward mail and change the colour but this is but another example of it's uselessness. Don't sign up even as anabsolute last resort.
2 out of 5Ok, IF the spammers dont get youMarch 06, 2009

Ive been using windows live or msn or hotmail for years. Although parts of the mail service have improved, other parts fail. Because its free, they are now adding adds in the email pages. I get alot of junk mail and take the time to block each one, yet they still appear in my inbox. One such spam will automatically launch a fake anti-virus scanner when I try to delete the message. Im fed up and changing my email to Gmail. I do NOT recommend Windows live unless you can find a way to block the SPAM yourself, because windows live doesnt.
4 out of 5change is goodFebruary 13, 2009
By KingCrab
I strongly disagree with the other reviews -- they don't know how to embrace change. Hotmail got a facelift last November, and it was a drastic change from the old interface. But that's a good thing. The old interface was pretty bad. The new design is fast, clean, and simple. Now if you're looking for the latest bells and whistles, you might want to consider Gmail instead, because Hotmail offers a basic set of features.

I can't get Hotmail email to come up on my computer ... I only get error on page. I can't even find out how to contact them to send them an email about the problem. If you're considering a Hotmail email account, forget it and move on ... your stress level will thank you.
1 out of 5Useless!!!November 06, 2008
By darellbee
This new design is totally useless. The first time I tried to use it, I actually thought their site had been hacked into...surely hotmail did not do this on purpose. The thought of checking email on hotmail produces a feeling of dread in me now...That is how strong my reaction has been to what their programmers have done!!

It is just awful. It won't fit on my monitor screen and I can't scroll down to get to some of my contacts which I can't even find. Also, the InBox sign is obscurred by other stuff. It is just a mess and I hate it and I can't understand why it is so big. It just makes me nervous. I will use Outlook Express from now on.
