1 out of 5Currently unreliable and impossible to contactNovember 19, 2011

I have been using Spamex for several years and have been very satisfied with their service. However, recently they have become very unreliable. Their servers have been down frequently and there is no recourse, because they are impossible to contact. Fortunately, so far the servers have gone back up after a while, but since I cannot ask what's going on, I do not have confidence in them. I have a great many Spamex addresses and it will be a huge chore to switch them to other addresses. Until Spamex makes known what their current problems and future plans are, I strongly recommend against using their service.

Pros: +inexpensive +you can create any alphanumeric alias (e.g. my1andonly1@spamex.com). +no need to create new email account/password for each new alias; all aliases are forwarded to one email account +easy to create new alias (via web site) +free trial +fairly reliable; the server went down only 2 to 3 times during the past few years I've been using this service. cons: -only 500 K attachment size (pay more to increase size limit) -must log-in at spamex site to originate email. Replying can be done inside any email client, but you need to delete two lines of text injected by spamex. -limited choice of domain names (spamex.com or xemaps.com). Both are unfamiliar names. If you try to give someone an alias over the phone, you will have to spell out the domain (unlike familar email domains gmail, yahoo, hotmail). -all users share the same two domains, so the email alias you want to create may be in use by another user. Although, in my past few years of usage, I never ran into such issue. I habitually create aliases with two or more english words and a number (e.g. RealMccoy2011@xemaps.com) -very rarely, the email alias is rejected by some online form as invalid email address.

Not sure when this review was written. But spamex has custom domains (I have one) you need to contact them and there is a 1 time setup fee. As far as responding to help requests I have had no issues. I have had to email them a few times for minor issues and I got a reply with in 2 business days . The also have a phone number (They don't publish it but they gave it to me to setup my custom domain. The only sad part about this service is the lack of any new options in years. The price is right but some times i get the feeling this is just a back burner project of someone's for extra cash.
2 out of 5Still a decent service; dreadful customer supportJanuary 27, 2010

I agree with the reviewer re pros and cons. Until recently, I would have given the service at least a four-star rating, and possibly a five-star rating. One major flaw with Spamex: they don't reply to requests for help! Also, they don't have a system in place to alert users that their accounts are coming up to the renewal date. It's pretty much up to the user to remember when their account expires, and to renew it in time. Auto-renewal doesn't work, either. Luckily, the owners also appear not to have a good handle on knowing which accounts are expired, and my account has always been usable, even when it was expired for 3 months because I lost track of my renewal date. Still, it makes me really, really nervous -- I have 500 DEAs, and my online life would be in bad shape if my spamex account tanked. To make matters even worse, I have been receiving some really odd spam lately, coming from some of my spamex addresses. The nature of the spam strongly suggests that my account has been breached in some way. I have already placed a call to the spamex offices, but I have little hope that they will call me back, as they've never done so in the past. I guess I will send an email, but it would be stupid to expect a reply, because they typically do NOT reply. I have a very strong sense that spamex is simply hobbling along and will soon die altogether. I would most definitely not recommend this service to a friend, because I don't think it will be around much longer.
