The Bottom Line

Lyttlesoft Spamologist takes care of the spam problem by filtering out obvious spam altogether and challenging new senders to verify their identity. Easy to set up and use, Lyttlesoft Spamologist unfortunately works with POP accounts only and can only use public black- but not whitelists.
Unfortunately, Lyttlesoft Spamologist is not actively developed.

Guide Review - Lyttlesoft Spamologist 1.1 - Spam Filter

I'm not sure if "Spamologist" is a title I would like to see written on my collar. Fortunately, I don't have to pursue this career path. Lyttlesoft's friendly Spamologist has already gone there, and now offers her spam filtering services for anybody using POP accounts. If you use IMAP or another email account type, you are out of luck.

Those who use Spamologist usually have good reason to call themselves lucky, though. Using a combination of content analysis and a challenge/response system, Lyttlesoft Spamologist filters out just about all junk email easily. A wizard takes care of the essential configuration, and that can also be all the configuration you need. Then Lyttlesoft Spamologist hums along in the background, silently removing spam and challenging new senders while only mail from trusted senders reaches your Inbox.

That Lyttlesoft Spamologist only challenges senders of mail that is not obviously (by its standards) spam by default reduces the mail traffic but introduces a slim chance of false positives.

While it is nice that Lyttlesoft Spamologist checks public blacklists of known spam sources, a list of commonly verified senders could reduce the annoyance for non-spammers and ease the pain for senders of newsletters who often cannot authorize with every recipient.
