BlogSigs - Signature Tool

Heinz Tschabitscher

The Bottom Line

BlogSigs links to your latest blog post from your email signature.
It supports a number of email programs and services and can work out pretty nicely. Unfortunately, BlogSigs can also be quite whimsical and more options for what is included in the signature might be nice.
Pros
  • BlogSigs inserts a link to your latest blog post into your email signature
  • BlogSigs supports Outlook, Entourage, Mail, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail
  • The BlogSigs Mozilla Firefox add-on can insert Digg submissions and del.icio.us bookmarks, too
Cons
  • BlogSigs only works with Outlook on Windows and is cumbersome on a Mac
  • More options for adapting and customizing the text inserted would be nice
  • BlogSigs does not provide an always-up-to-date remote image alternative

Description

  • BlogSigs inserts the latest link and headline from a RSS news feed in your email signature.
  • Versions for Windows, Mac OS X and Mozilla Firefox support Outlook, Mac OS X Mail, Entourage, Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail.
  • BlogSigs updates the link at a preset interval (measured in days, hours or minutes).
  • The Mozilla Firefox add-on can link to your latest Digg story or del.icio.us bookmark as well.
  • BlogSigs supports Mac OS X, Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mozilla Firefox 2.

Guide Review - BlogSigs 1.0 - Signature Tool

Who cares about signatures these days? Well, at least you send a few glances across countless signatures every day. Right?

What if others who see your signature are drawn into it, click and continue to frequent your blog? You can add a link, of course, to your email program's signature together with a tag line manually. How, though, will you keep that up to date with what's happening at the blog?

BlogSigs will do the keeping up. Hand BlogSigs your blog's RSS feed and it will periodically add the latest headline and link to your signature.

The BlogSigs Mozilla Firefox add-on does this best. It works with Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail and can insert your latest Digg submission or del.icio.us bookmark, too. In TinyURL-like fashion, it can shrink long links to blog posts (for plain text signatures).

The Windows version of BlogSigs works quite nicely with Outlook, but can at times appear whimsical. BlogSigs for Mac OS X has its own head entirely. It is supposed to work with Mac OS X Mail and Entourage — and might if you are lucky, but it barely remembered the application's locations for me.

Even the Mozilla Firefox add-on could be better, of course. Even more options for, say, including multiple links or even multiple blogs would be nice, and a hosted solution that updates a remote image inserted in the signature with the latest posting could be useful, too.
