Postmaster - Remote Email Tool

Postmaster - Remote Email Tool

Heinz Tschabitscher
The Bottom Line
Postmaster lets you scan and clean POP, Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail accounts in a speedy and lightweight function. Unfortunately, Postmaster is no heavyweight when it comes to features or usability either. Postmaster is no longer available.
Pros
  • Postmaster lets you scan and delete mail right at a POP server without having to download them first
  • You can also check Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail accounts with Postmaster
  • Postmaster announces new mail and lets you preview it in Outlook Express
Cons
  • Postmaster lacks really useful filters
  • The new mail pop-up window doesn't show any message details
  • Postmaster's interface is a bit at odds with conventions and usability
Description
  • Postmaster lets you connect to POP, Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail accounts.
  • You can review and delete messages without downloading them with Postmaster.
  • Postmaster can also show complete messages using Outlook Express.
  • Subject and sender filtering allows you to concentrate on certain emails.
  • Postmaster supports Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/3/XP.
Guide Review - Postmaster 2.7.1 - Remote Email Tool
If you have an email account you know to be filled with messages you don't want, you can download them all in your email client (making sure it deletes the messages after retrieval) and the move them to the "Trash" folder. If the emails are numerous and large, that can mean a lot of downloading, and if your email client chokes on a particular message you're stalled.

Postmaster to the rescue! Using Postmaster, you can get a quick overview of any POP, Hotmail or Yahoo! Mail account. Postmaster shows you the number and size of the messages. Now you can decide to delete some based on this information alone or get some header information (the sender and subject, for example) before you decide on which to remove. Postmaster can also show you complete messages using Outlook Express, but that means downloading them, of course.

While you can filter based on sender and subject, Postmaster lacks really useful filters. The new mail announcement is okay, but it could be more useful with some information about the newly arrived emails. Postmaster's interface in general is a bit off. You can, for example, resize its main window, but the message list does not resize with it.
