How to Access Free Yahoo! Mail with Windows Mail

Have you ever forgotten to check your Yahoo! Mail account — because most of your email activity happens in Windows Mail, where all your other mail arrives? Or do you primarily use Yahoo! Mail perhaps but would like to get some of the speed, comfort and stability of a desktop application like Windows Mail?

With a Yahoo! Mail Plus subscription, you you can comfortably download messages received at your Yahoo! Mail account to Windows Mail using POP. But even if you lack such a subscription, a clever tool like YPOPs! lets you read — and send — Yahoo! Mail emails in Windows Mail.

Access Free Yahoo! Mail with Windows Mail Using YPOPs! (Simple and Free)

To set up a free Yahoo! Mail account in Windows Mail using YPOPs!:

  • Install YPOPs! and make sure it is running.
  • Open Windows Mail.
  • Select Tools | Accounts... from the menu in Windows Mail.
  • Click Add....
  • Make sure E-mail Account is highlighted.
  • Click Next.
  • Type your name.
  • Click Next.
  • Enter your Yahoo! Mail address under E-mail address:.
  • Click Next.
  • Make sure POP3 is selected under Incoming e-mail server type.
  • Enter "localhost" under Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server:.
    • If "localhost" turns out not to work, try "127.0.0.1" instead.
  • Type "localhost" under Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name: as well.
    • If "localhost" turns out not to work, again try "127.0.0.1" instead.
  • Click Next.
  • Type your Yahoo! Mail user name (your Yahoo! Mail address without "@yahoo.com") under E-mail username:.
  • Enter your Yahoo! Mail password under Password:.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Finish.
  • Click Close.

Access Free Yahoo! Mail with Windows Mail Using IzyMail (Transparent Access to Folders)

To add a free Yahoo! Mail account to Windows Mail as an IMAP account using IzyMail:

  • Make sure your Yahoo! Mail account is registered with IzyMail.
  • Select Tools | Accounts... from the menu in Windows Mail.
  • Click Add....
  • Make sure E-mail Account is highlighted.
  • Click Next.
  • Enter your name under Display Name:.
  • Click Next.
  • Type your Yahoo! Mail address under E-mail address:.
  • Click Next.
  • Make sure IMAP is selected under Incoming e-mail server type:.
  • Enter "in.izymail.com" under Incoming mail (POP or IMAP) server:.
  • Enter "out.izymail.com" under Outgoing e-mail (SMTP) server name:.
  • Make sure Outgoing server requires authentication is checked.
  • Click Next.
  • Enter your full Yahoo! Mail address (including the "@yahoo.com") under E-mail username:.
  • Type your Yahoo! Mail password under Password:.
  • Click Next.
  • Click Finish.
  • Highlight the in.izymail.com account.
  • Click Properties.
  • Go to the IMAP tab.
  • Make sure Store special folders on IMAP server is checked.
  • Type "_Sent" under Sent Items path:.
  • Enter "_Draft" under Drafts path:.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Close.
