How to Compose and Send an Email Message in Windows Live Mail or Outlook Express

By , About.com Guide

Email works a lot like letter writing, it's just a bit better. Of course, writing an email — in Windows Mail and Outlook Express, for example — is just as easy as writing a letter.

Compose and Send an Email Message in Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express

To compose and deliver an email in Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express:

  • Click the New button in Windows Live Mail, and the Create Mail button in the Windows Mail or Outlook Express toolbar.
  • Click in the To: field.
  • Start typing the name of the person you want to email.
    • If Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express automatically completes the name, press Return.
    • If Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express cannot complete the name, type the recipient's complete email address (e.g. "recipient@example.com", not including the quotation marks) instead.
  • To send your message to multiple recipients, separate them with semicolons (;).
    • You can also use the Cc: and Bcc: fields to send carbon copies of your email. The Cc: and Bcc: fields are used in exactly the same way as the To: field.
  • Type a short and meaningful subject in the Subject: field.
  • Click in the message body area.
  • Type your message.
  • Click Send.
