In Windows Live Hotmail, you can be curious and see the source of any email (which contains routing information as well as attachments in encoded form, and formatting instructions maybe) while maintaining your caution towards strange emails: you don't have to open a message to see its (plain text) source.
View an Email's Source in Windows Live Hotmail
To see the source code of an email message in Windows Live Hotmail:
- Click on the desired email in the message list with the right mouse button.
- You do not have to open the message.
- Select View source from the menu.
Unfortunately, you cannot access the message source in Windows Live Hotmail Classic. Please switch to the full version, at least intermittently, for this.
