How to Have Pegasus Mail Set Up Filing Filters for You

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Little things can make a great difference, and even little differences can make great things.

How about, for example, having your mail not arrive jumbled in New mail but sorted to folders that make sense? How, then, about not having to set up the Pegasus Mail filters that do the sorting?

To make Pegasus Mail recognize sender addresses when you move mail to a folder and set up corresponding filters automatically:

  • If you are about to file a message, do not yet copy or move it yet.
  • Click on the folder to hold all future mail from the sender with the right mouse button.
  • Select Autofiltering... | Autofiltering configured from the menu if the menu item is not yet checked.
    • If Autofiltering configured is checked, make sure Message filing active and Address gathering active are also checked in the same menu.
  • Move or copy a message from the person or list to the folder.
  • If a dialog comes up:
    • Make sure the most likely header is checked. Look for the desired sender's email address.
    • Click OK.

Any auto-filtering folder can look for multiple email addresses. To prevent future emails from a particular sender from ending up in the auto-filtering folder, you can remove theirs from the folder's associated addresses.
