How to Prevent Windows Mail and Outlook Express from Making Internet Connections

Windows Mail and Outlook Express can establish internet connections automatically when they check for new messages periodically.

This feature can turn into a nuisance when you do not want a connection, for whatever reason. Fortunately, you can prevent Outlook Express from attempting to establish an Internet connection.

Prevent Windows Mail and Outlook Express from Making Internet Connections

To tell Windows Mail or Outlook Express that you are currently offline and what to remain so

  • Select File | Work Offline from the menu so that it is checked.

To enable automatic connections by Windows Mail or Outlook Express again, select the File | Work Offline menu item anew to uncheck it.
