How to Make Windows Mail or Outlook Express Remember Your Email Account Password

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Remember and typing the passwords for all the web sites, accounts, ordering systems, providers, vendors and middlepersons is a great exercise in memory created through repetitive typing.

But typing the password to your email account every time Windows Mail orOutlook Express checks for new mail, that's a bit too much. Fortunately, Windows Mail and Outlook Express can remember and send the password for you, which makes checking for new mail an even more pleasurable experience (although you should in general still strive not to do it too often).

Make Windows Mail or Outlook Express Remember Your Email Account Password

To teach Outlook Express to remember the password to your email account:

  • Select Tools | Accounts... from the menu.
  • Highlight the desired email account.
  • Click Properties.
  • Go to the Servers tab.
  • Type your password under Incoming Mail Server | Password:.
  • Make sure Remember password is checked.
  • Click OK.
  • Now click Close.

Outlook Express is Still Not Getting It?

If Outlook Express still refuses to remember your passwords, it could be a failure to locate the Protected Storage System Provider. Possibly, you can remedy this sorry state and make Outlook Express finally remember passwords by editing the system registry directly.
