Not sending your replies immediately has another benefit: you avoid the instant back and forth trap. More often than not, an email produces yet another email. If you habitually wait, say, a day before answering, the amount of email you have to deal with decreases while the quality does increase.
Send Mail Later in Windows Mail or Outlook Express
To send a message later in Windows Mail or Outlook Express:
- Select File | Send Later from the menu in the message window.
The message will be placed in the Outbox folder by Windows Mail or Outlook Express until the next Send and Receive takes place, either manually or automatically.
Until then, you can go to the Outbox and edit the message.
If you have more than one email account in Windows Mail or Outlook Express, the File menu entry in the message menu will read Send Later Using and you can select the account you want to send the message with there.
Schedule Email for the Future
In Windows Mail and Outlook Express, you can save a message's delivery for later — but you cannot really schedule an email to be sent at a specified time and date in the future.
With email scheduling services such as l8r, you can do just that. Typically, these services do not integrate with Windows Mail or Outlook Express, however.
