Use Rich HTML Formatting in an Email with Windows Live Mail or Outlook Express

By , About.com Guide

Email has long been, and to a large degree continues to be, plain text.

But even if you usually prefer sending simple messages in plain text, you may want to make use of the formatting capabilities that Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail and Outlook Express put (literally) at your fingertips now and then.

With these formatting tools, you can use bold face and custom fonts as well as background sound, inline images and much more.

  • Select Format from the menu and click on Rich text (HTML) or Rich Text (HTML).
    • In Windows Live Mail, you may have to press the Alt key to see the menu bar.
