Unfortunately, both Outlook Agent and WinBackup Professional did run into problems while backing up a few times, and better support for more email clients (notably Mozilla Thunderbird) would be great.

- The WinBackup Professional Outlook Agent can include individual emails from Outlook in a backup.
- Files and emails to be backed up can be identified using search criteria.
- Prior to and after a backup process, WinBackup Professional can run scripts and applications.
- Backups created with WinBackup Professional can be compress, encrypted and validated.
- WinBackup Professional supports Windows 2000/3/XP.
Of course, you can back up any file using WinBackup Professional on a schedule, protected by encryption and reduced in size by compression. The real zest is in WinBackup Professional's "shortcuts", however.
The shortcuts unite all the necessary files and registry keys necessary to fully back up an application and its data under one checkbox. Of course, you can also choose selectively which mailboxes and settings to include in a backup for the supported email programs, Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express and Opera.
It's a pity not more email programs enjoy this feature. While shortcuts prevent you from forgetting to include settings in your backup, they do not solve a peculiar problem Outlook users in particular have: restoring a single message from a huge monolithic backup copy of a huge monolithic PST file can take a long time.
Outlook Agent to the rescue! This special module of WinBackup Professional lets you back up and restore individual folders and messages from Outlook. You can even set up searches to find a certain set of messages for your backup.
Unfortunately, Outlook Agent was not entirely immune to failure in my tests and gave up shy of having backed up anything on occasion.
