How to Toggle the Display of Remote Images Quickly in Opera

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

In its usually sensible manner, Opera blocks remote content in emails by default. This makes sure your privacy is not compromised by Opera downloading an image whenever you open an email message, and it can help protect against some malicious code, too.

But while security and privacy are top priority, they are not everything. If an email comes from a trusted source and the images are, you assume, vital for understanding it, it should be possible to retrieve the remote images. And it is, of course. Just select View | Display | Suppress external embeds from the toolbar, and don't forget to do the same after you have read the message so your protection is re-enabled for the next email. There must be an easier way. And there is.

Toggle the Display of Remote Images Quickly in Opera

To toggle the display of remote images quickly in Opera:

  • Select Tools | Preferences... from the menu.
  • Go to the Mouse and keyboard category.
  • Click Edit... under Keyboard setup.
  • Highlight Mail Window.
  • Click New....
  • Type "g ctrl".
  • Press Tab.
  • Type "Allow external embeds | Suppress external embeds".
  • Press Enter.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK again.

Now, to toggle remote content while viewing a message:

  • Press Ctrl-G.
