How to Use Rich HTML Formatting in Emails with Opera

By , About.com Guide

Some while ago, the world wide web (also known as WWW or w3) started to bring images and text formatting to the Internet.

How about bringing some text formatting to the emails you send from your Mosaic or other WWW browser?

In Opera, you can easily switch between plain text that's always in fashion and rich HTML formatting that amps your controls.

Use Rich HTML Formatting in Emails with Opera

To add rich formatting to a message you are composing in Opera:

  • Make sure Use HTML Formatting is selected in the message's toolbar.
  • Use the formatting toolbar that appears just above the body area to apply text styles or insert inline images, for example.

You can safely select Use Plain Text and switch back to HTML formatting without losing data. Of course, you can also remove formatting selectively from text parts easily as well.

Make Rich HTML Formatting the Default in Opera

To enable the rich-text editor by default for an email account in Opera:

  • Select Tools | Mail and Chat Accounts... from the menu.
  • Double-click the desired account.
  • Go to the Outgoing tab.
  • Make sure Prefer HTML formatting is checked.
  • Click OK.
  • Now click Close.
