Use Lots of White Space in Your Email Messages

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Text written in all capital letters, which you should not use for a number of reasons, is more difficult to read than text set in mixed case.

The same holds for messages packed with text, ideally amassed in one long paragraph and lacking line breaks completely.

Text including

  • plenty of white space is
  • much easier on the eye,

and paragraph breaks make it easier to read not only visually but also cognitively.

This applies to plain text messages as well as to messages with rich text formatting, which gives you even more opportunities to employ white space to make your messages more appealing and easier to read.
