How to Check the Spelling as You Type in Mac OS X Mail

I make spelling mistakes as I type, not afterwards. Fortunately, Mac OS X Mail knows this and can check my spelling for the obvious (and frequent) misspellings automatically as I type.

Check the Spelling as You Type in Mac OS X Mail

To have spelling checked as you type in Mac OS X Mail:

• Select Edit | Spelling and Grammar | Check Spelling | While Typing from the menu while composing an email.

To check the spelling as you type in Mac OS X Mail 1, 2 and 3:

• Select Edit | Spelling | Check Spelling As You Type from the Mac OS X Mail menu so that it is checked.
  • If Check Spelling As You Type is not yet checked, click on it.
  • If Check Spelling As You Type is already checked, leave the menu without making any changes.

Now, Mac OS X Mail will mark all spelling mistakes that its spell checker detects by underlining it with a dashed red line. To correct the spelling, click on the underlined word while holding down the Ctrl key or click with the right mouse button.
