This article explains how to send a web page in an email on Mac. The information applies to the Mail application contained in macOS Catalina (10.15) to OS X Mavericks (10.9).

How to Share a Web Page Image Using Safari and Mail

With the Mail application in macOS, you can send links to web pages, but links aren't your only option if you use Apple Mail and Safari browser. The Share icon in Safari allows you to email a web page in any of four formats:

  • Web page and link
  • Reader format and link
  • Attached PDF and link
  • Link only

When you share the web page in either web page format or reader format, it is viewable and scrollable within the email. All the links function. If you choose to attach the web page to the email as a PDF, it is not viewable within the email, but the recipient can click the PDF icon to open it in any PDF reader. The PDF also contains the full web page, and the links remain functional.

  1. In Safari, open the web page you want to email.

  2. Click the Share icon at the top of the Safari screen (it resembles a box with an arrow coming out of the top).

  3. Select Email This Page in the Share drop-down menu.

  4. When the email opens in Apple Mail, go to the Send Web Content As menu and select Web Page to send a replica of the web page as you see it in your browser.

  5. Enter your recipient's email address, type a message, and click Send.

The Safari Share menu only includes the "Email This Page" option when Apple Mail is your default mail client and Mail is set as the "Default Email Reader" in the Mail preferences.

How to Send a Web Page in Other Mail Programs

If you don't use Apple Mail as your default mail client, you won't have the "Email This Program" option in the Share menu. You can still send a PDF of a web page by generating a PDF in a browser and attaching it manually to your email.

  1. Open the web page you want to share in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or any other web browser with a Save as PDF option.

  2. Select File > Print in the browser menu bar.

  3. Choose Save to PDF in the printer options and Print.

    The positions of these commands and settings vary among browsers.

  4. Open an email in any email client and attach the saved PDF. Fill in the recipient address, add a message, and click Send.

The recipient can use any PDF viewer to show the formatting of the PDF as you see it. The PDF does not depend on the recipient's email program. However, the recipient must have a device or program that is capable of showing PDF files to see the fully formatted page.
