The Bottom Line
QuoteFix works well and behind the scenes, but more convenient installation and an on/off switch or additional keyboard shortcuts would be nice.
Pros
- QuoteFix puts the cursor at the bottom of quoted emails when you reply in Mac OS X Mail
- Extraneous white lines and the original message's signature, if found, are removed
Cons
- QuoteFix lacks a convenient installation method
- A way to turn QuoteFix off without uninstallation would be nice
- Maybe QuoteFix could preserve top posting as an additional menu command and keyboard shortcut
Description
- QuoteFix adds standard bottom posting to Mac OS X Mail.
- In addition to putting the cursor at the bottom for replies, QuoteFix also mends the white lines around the quoted text.
- If QuoteFix finds a signature in quoted text, it deletes that automatically, too.
- QuoteFix supports Mac OS X 10.5/6.
Guide Review - QuoteFix r30 - Mac OS X Mail Add-On
If this is how you start your email replies in Mac OS X Mail, QuoteFix can do it for you. With the QuoteFix add-on installed, Mac OS X Mail will quote the original message as usual, but place the text insertion cursor below all that quoted text, a empty line in between and no wasted white space on top.
QuoteFix, in short, enables proper bottom posting in Mac OS X Mail for both plain and rich text messages. As an added bonus, QuoteFix will delete the original message's signature if it detects one in the quoted text.
QuoteFix is exceedingly simple and just works. Sometimes, it might be nice to turn it off — for a single message, perhaps, or for some time. Separate keyboard shortcuts for top and bottom posting would be fabulous, and a simple on/off switch helpful. For the time being, to turn QuoteFix on or off, you have to move its .mailbundle file to and from your Mail's "Bundles" folder. An tool for easier installation and removal is sadly missing.
