Fortunately, you can maneuver your way around this entry restraint and employ iPhone Mail's full multi-address capabilities.
Set Up Multiple From Addresses with an iPhone Mail Account
To add additional email addresses for sending mail to an iPhone Mail email account:
- Make sure the account is set up as an IMAP or POP account (using Other while creating the account, not Gmail, for example).
- Tap Settings on the iPhone or iPod touch home screen.
- Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Choose the desired account under Accounts.
- In iOS 5 and later:
- Tap the account under IMAP.
- Tap the Address field under IMAP Account Information or POP Account Information.
- Select Select All from the pop-up menu.
- Now select Cut.
- Tap in the Description field, also under IMAP Account Information or POP Account Information.
- If you have entered a custom description for the account:
- Note the account description mentally so you can retype it later.
- Select Select All from the pop-up menu.
- Tap in the Description field once more.
- Select Paste from the pop-up menu.
- For each address you want to use with the email account:
- Enter ", " (a comma followed by a whitespace character; do not include the quotation marks).
- Tap the desired additional email address.
- iPhone Mail will use and present the addresses in the order in which you enter them; the first in the list will be the default address for the account.
- Tap somewhere in the Description field again.
- Select Select All from the pop-up menu.
- Now select Cut from the menu.
- Tap in the Address field under IMAP Account Information or POP Account Information.
- Tap in the same Address field again.
- Select Paste from the pop-up menu.
- If you want to use an account name different from the email addresses:
- Tap in the Description field.
- Make any changes you desire.
- Press the Home button.
Now you can pick the address used to send when composing a message or reply in iPhone Mail.
As an alternative, on a Mac you can also create your email accounts as desired — including all additional addresses — in Mac OS X Mail and sync email accounts with the iPhone or iPod touch.
