How to Export Google Calendar Data to an ICS File

Move your events to a new calendar or share them

What to Know

  • Open Google Calendar on a PC and select the gear icon > Settings > Import & export > Export.
  • In the center of the screen, select Export to download the ZIP file.

This article explains how to back up all your Google Calendar calendars to ICS files, plus how to export events from a single calendar. Instructions apply to Google Calendar on the web.

Export Events From All Calendars

Google Calendar is an excellent time-management and scheduling calendar service that lets you schedule and share events via the web, mobile devices, and desktop applications. While Google Calendar has wide-ranging functionality, there may be times you'd like to use a Google Calendar event somewhere else or share it with others. If so, export the Google Calendar data to an ICS file, which is a format supported by most scheduling and calendar applications.

After you back up your calendar data to an ICS file, you can import the calendar events directly into a different program, such as Microsoft Outlook, or store the file for backup purposes.

You can't export events from the Google Calendar app.

  1. Open Google Calendar on your computer.

  2. On the top right, select Settings (gear icon) and then select Settings from the drop-down list.

  3. Select Import & export to download your events.

  4. Under Export, select Export. A ZIP file will download to your computer. If you open the ZIP file, you'll find individual ICS files for each of your calendars.

To import the files back into Google Calendar, take the individual ICS files out of the ZIP file and import them one by one.

Export Events From a Single Calendar

  1. Open Google Calendar on your computer.

  2. On the left side of the page, find the My calendars section. (You may need to select it to expand it.)

  3. Point to the calendar you want to export.

  4. Select the More icon (three dots) followed by Settings and sharing.

  5. Under Calendar settings, select Export calendar.

  6. An ICS file of your events will start to download.

If you use Google Calendar through your work, school, or other organizations, you may not have the ability to export events. Contact your admin.
