How to Mute Reply-All Threads Successfully in Gmail

You mute threads in Gmail only to find their messages still make it to the Inbox where you annoyingly have to ignore them yet again? That happens when such a thread is a Reply All-fest, for example, where you can be found somewhere in the To: or Cc: line.

Fortunately, you can tell Gmail to really mute such threads — until a message in the conversation is address to you and only you. (Somebody specifically adding you as a To: or Cc: recipient will also bring the conversation to your attention.)
