How to Automatically See Images in Emails from Known Senders in FastMail

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Using images that are download only and whenever you open an email, the message's status can be tracked and spammers or more malevolent senders may be able to verify your email address and gather some details about you.

So it is great and commendable that FastMail protects you from these so-called "web bugs": to see remote images you have to click extra, and you don't have to click if you suspect evil intentions. But clicking every time for newsletters and messages that come from known and trusted senders? Is that necessary?

It is not. You can tell FastMail to show remote images automatically if a message is from a sender in your FastMail address book.

Automatically See Images in Emails from Known Senders in FastMail

To download and see remote images automatically if the sender is known:

  • Follow the Options link from your FastMail Inbox.
  • Select Account Preferences.
  • Under Web But Protection, choose Show images for known senders only from the drop-down menu.
  • Click Save.
