How to Write an Email Using Rich HTML Formatting in FastMail

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

If somebody sends you an email using rich formatting at your FastMail account and you want to reply in style, plain text sometimes doesn't cut it. The plain text "equivalent" to the richly formatted message included in your reply can also be less than ideal to look at.

Or maybe you feel like using Impact as the font in an email, make its background color red and insert an image, too. With FastMail, you can — if you compose an email using HTML. Here's how.

Write an Email Using Rich HTML Formatting in FastMail

To use rich HTML formatting in an email you compose in FastMail:

  • Start composing a message or reply.
  • Follow the Edit as html link.
    • You can find this link to the right of the message headers (From, To,...) and the recipient Quick list.
    • If you use the advanced composition screen, select HTML from the Text drop-down menu in the same place.
  • Write and format your email using the formatting toolbar.

You can even switch editors after you have already typed something. You will not lose any text.

If you find you use HTML formatting all the time, you can also make it the default in FastMail.
