How to View the Source of an Email Message in Eudora

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

If you don't like your favorite application to act stubbornly, you probably had a lot to dislike when you tried to view the source — the complete source — of an email in Eudora.

It's possible, easy even, to see all headers or get the HTML source of a message you are seeing, but all efforts to unearth the full source of a single email fail miserably in Eudora.

Fortunately, ways around this oddity exist, and they are adventuresome and entertaining.

View the Source of an Email Message in Eudora

To see the complete source of an email in Eudora:

  • Open the desired message in Eudora.
  • Click the Blah Blah Blah button.
  • Highlight the line beginning with "Message-Id:".
  • Press Ctrl-C.
  • Open your Eudora folder in Windows Explorer.
  • Open Notepad (or your favorite text editor).
  • In Explorer, click on the .mbx (Eudora Mailbox)file named like the Eudora folder that contains your message.
  • Drag and drop the file on Notepad.
  • Press Ctrl-F.
  • Hit Ctrl-V.
  • Click Find Next.
  • Click Cancel.
  • Highlight everything from the nearest line preceding the location you found that begins with "From ???@???" to immediately before the next line that begins with "From ???@???".
  • Press Ctrl-C.
  • Press Ctrl-N.
  • Now press Ctrl-V.
