How to Set Up Eudora for Lazy but Correct Replies

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

Eudora as a whole is the epitome of correctness in the word's best sense. Eudora just does things right, and it's no different with replies, where Eudora makes you follow the time-tested rules of quoting text selectively and replying beneath it effortlessly.

There is another style of replying to emails, no less stylish, useful or correct. Not conflicting with Eudora's default style directly, it is not the same either. For Eudora to let you reply both correctly and lazily to emails, you need to change a few options.

Set Up Eudora for Lazy but Correct Replies

To make Eudora put the quoted text below your reply without indentation:

  • Edit the following X-Eudora-Options:
    • Set ReplyPrefix to "" (just empty the input field; the default value is ">").
    • Set WhenReplyingSeparateWithLine to "1" (to insert an empty line before the quoted text; default is "0").
    • Set WhenReplyingTypeBefore to "1" as well (puts the cursor before the quoted message; this is also the default).

What to Do with the Signature

Unfortunately, Eudora does not currently offer a way to place the signature before the quoted message instead of at the very bottom of your reply. While the former would make more sense, the latter can be lived with.
