How to Whitelist a Mailing List in Aliencamel

By , About.com Guide

For a system that relies on the sender to distinguish welcome from unwelcome messages, mailing lists pose a special problem. After you have signed up to a list, all list mail is good mail, but, naturally, you do not know the current or future members who the list mail will come from.

Aliencamel has a reasonably useful approach to putting a complete mailing list on your white list of senders: it looks at the To: line of each message, too. Typically, mailing list messages are addressed to a "list address" where the list robot picks them up and distributes them to the individual members. By whitelisting this list address, Aliencamel can identify mailing list messages without the need to approve each member individually.

Whitelist a Mailing List in Aliencamel

To put a mailing list on your Aliencamel whitelist:

  • Go to the Aliencamel web site.
  • Select Address Centre from the top navigation bar.
  • Go to Mailing Lists.
  • Under Add a mailing list email address, type the list address.
    • The list address is the address you send a message to if you want it to be distributed to all list members.
  • Click Add address.

When whitelisting mailing lists this way, be aware that junk mail sent to the list address will get through to your Aliencamel Inbox. For lists that are not well-protected against such abuse, whitelisting individual members as they send messages to the list might be better.
