How to Keep a Copy of Sent Mail in AIM Mail or AOL Mail

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

When you have composed and sent a message in AIM Mail or AOL Mail, a copy is placed in the Sent folder automatically. Visit the folder, and you will find it there.

So far, so good. Look for the fine print in the Sent folder, though, and you will find something to the effect of your "most recently sent mail stored there. If you want to keep your sent messages indefinitely, this is not so good, as AIM Mail and AOL Mail mean it. Only the most recent 550 sent messages are kept. Mail sent previously is automatically deleted.

Fortunately, it is easy to move your mail out of the Sent and into a custom archive folder. You just have to think of it.

Keep a Copy of Sent Mail in AIM Mail or AOL Mail

To keep permanent copies of sent messages in AIM Mail and AOL Mail:

  • Go to the Sent folder.
  • Copy all messages you want to keep to a custom folder (organized by recipient or date, for example).
