What Are the Yandex.Mail POP3 Settings?

Set up Your Email Client to Read Your Yandex.Mail

You can pick up mail from your Yandex.Mail email account using email clients such as Microsoft Outlook Mozilla Thunderbird, and Apple Mail. You will need to know the Yandex.Mail POP server settings in order to set this up.

Enable POP3 on Yandex

By default, Yandex only enables IMAP support on new accounts. That's because it's generally the more popular option, and it saves drive space on your client. To use POP3, you're going to need to enable it.

  1. Open your browser, and head over to Yandex Mail. Then, sign in to your account.

  2. From your inbox, select the Settings gear icon in the upper right, above your mail.

Yandex POP3 Settings

The Yandex.Mail POP server settings for accessing incoming messages in any email program are:

  • Yandex.Mail POP server address: pop.yandex.com
  • Yandex.Mail POP user name: Your complete Yandex.Mail email address (first try including "@yandex.com", for example, or the domain name you are using with the Yandex.Mail account. If that doesn't work, use only your user name, the portion before the @yandex.com)
  • Yandex.Mail POP password: Your Yandex.Mail password
  • Account type: POP3
  • Yandex.Mail POP port: 995
  • Yandex.Mail POP TLS/SSL required: yes, select SSL/TLS
  • Yandex.Mail POP STARTTLS required: no

Enter these into your mail client to connect to the Yandex Mail POP3 server.

How POP3 Access to Yandex.Mail Works

When using POP3 with an email client such as Thunderbird on your computer, you will download messages from Yandex.Mail into folders on your computer. By default, they will go into the Inbox unless you set up filters with your email client to place messages in a different folder.

With POP3, Yandex.Mail still maintains a copy of the message on its server, in addition to the copy you downloaded. If you delete a message on your computer's email client, it has no effect on the messages saved on the Yandex.Mail server. You will have to go to the Yandex.Mail web interface if you want to delete any messages from their server.

If you want the deletion actions performed on your computer's email client to be mirrored on the Yandex.Mail server, you need instead to use Yandex.Mail IMAP access. It is available as a capable, seamlessly synchronizing alternative to POP.
