The Purpose of a Mailing List

Orderly Discussion

The purpose of mailing lists is to spark discussion among its members. Every message sent to the list is distributed to all the subscribers. It's a bit like a bulletin board, with the added bonus of getting the messages on the board delivered to your email address without having to check the board continuously.

Replies to individual messages on the list are sent to the list as well and distributed to all the members just like the initial post. Thus, many people can discuss in an orderly, fast and convenient way.

For Marina and Friends

Using a mailing list to which Marina and her friends as well as other people interested in the subject matter are subscribed, they can easily discuss new findings in the field of langue dangereuse (dangerous language/tongue).

Marina has set up the "lang-dang" list; this is just what we will do in one of the next installments, after we have had a look at how mailing lists work and what different kinds of lists exist.
