Mimic the Yahoo! Mail Bulk Mail Folder Locally

If you access your Yahoo! Mail account via POP and your email client, you get not only all the contents of your Inbox, but also the spam that usually goes to the Bulk Mail folder automatically.

To prevent having to sort through spam manually, you can stop downloading Bulk Mail folder mail altogether, or you make use of a smart tag added by Yahoo! Mail to help you filter spam with your email client.

Yahoo! Mail adds the "X-YahooFilteredBulk" header to all messages that would normally end in the Bulk Mail folder. If you construct a filter in your email client that mimics the Yahoo! Mail Bulk Mail folder by putting spam in a special folder automatically.

To mimic the Yahoo! Mail Bulk Mail folder locally with your email client:

  • Make sure you are not preventing mail in the Yahoo! Mail Bulk Mail folder from being downloaded via POP.
  • Set up a filter in your email client that moves all mail that has "X-YahooFilteredBulk" in its headers to a special "Bulk Mail" folder.
