With a full-fledged scripting language for filters, SpamWeasel is one of the more powerful anti-spam tools. While it works great out of the box, writing new filters isn't easy.

SpamWeasel uses an interesting and powerful concept. It acts as a proxy between your email program and the POP server where your incoming mail is collected. This means that SpamWeasel can do more things to the spam it detects than just delete it. It can, for example, put "SPAM" in the subject, making it easy for your email client to collect all suspected spam in one folder.
SpamWeasel uses highly flexible, but not particularly easy to set up filters to spot spam. Fortunately SpamWeasel comes with a large collection of smart filters that need only limited amount of simple configuration.
Unfortunately, though, SpamWeasel can't make use of scoring filters or statistical analysis to spot spam, and it is restricted to POP accounts.
