The Bottom Line

KillSpam is a neat tool for browsing a mailbox quickly, deleting one or the other unwanted message. In spite of its name, KillSpam is no efficient anti-spam tool, however.
Pros
  • KillSpam supports Hotmail accounts in addition to POP
  • It's easy to browse a mailbox fast with KillSpam
  • Offers some sender and subject filtering
Cons
  • KillSpam doesn't work well as an automatic anti-spam tool
  • The filters in KillSpam are too simple, inflexible and ineffective
  • Doesn't support IMAP accounts

Description

  • KillSpam lets you check multiple POP and MSN Hotmail accounts for new mail and spam.
  • After previewing messages in KillSpam, it's easy to delete them.
  • KillSpam can mark mail matching certain sender or subject keywords for deletion automatically.
  • It's easy to set up these keyword filters manually or from existing messages.
  • The KillSpam Mail Watcher periodically checks your accounts, optionally deleting detected junk mail.
  • KillSpam lets you send a fake bounce to make your email address appear out of use.
  • KillSpam supports Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/3/XP.

Guide Review - KillSpam 6.2 - Spam Filter

Judging from the version number, KillSpam is no new tool, and it shows. While it is quite convenient and fast to browse a POP or Hotmail account in KillSpam, the simple filters — though easy to set up — are no substitute for an up-to-date, efficient and adaptive junk mail filtering utility.

The KillSpam "Mail Watcher" can check your accounts periodically and remove offending messages, but due to the crude nature of KillSpam's filters I wouldn't recommend that.

No, KillSpam is apt for manual checking, and the Outlook Express account settings import makes it easy to get started. You can even send a bouncing reply to certain emails, making it look as if your address did not exist.
