The Bottom Line
The POP and IMAP Add-ins for Messenger add really useful email alerts for POP and IMAP accounts to Windows Messenger. Unfortunately, they both support only one account. POP/IMAP Add-in is no longer available.

The Hotmail alerts of MSN Messenger (or Windows Messenger with the MSN add-in) are extremely useful — if only this feature were not restricted to Hotmail accounts.
Using the IMAP or POP add-ins for Messenger, you can enjoy Messenger pop-up alerts in the system tray for any POP or IMAP account and launch any email client with just a click.
Unfortunately, the POP and IMAP add-ins further extend a limitation of Windows Messenger. This doesn't allow you to use more than one add-in at a time, and those can't check more than one account.
If one account and one add-in are all you need, the POP and IMAP add-ins work perfectly, though.
