If you have more than one email account and don't want to have your email program running all the time, a mail checker can be useful: it looks for and announces new messages periodically.
MailCheck does that quite nicely. A mail checker becomes really useful if you can preview and delete the many unwanted emails right away, right off the server. While you can preview mails with MailCheck, it won't let you delete them.
Since MailCheck only supports POP accounts, it is really only for people that want a simple mail announcer for one or more POP accounts. MailCheck isn't suited for anything more.
