Use a Special Default Identity for a Folder in The Bat!

By Heinz Tschabitscher, About.com

I have many identities, in my so-called real life and in The Bat!, too. My reply to this specific mailing list should be from that address, and carry a special Organization header, messages to Julia need a very special sender name, and so on.

Fortunately, The Bat! has a very flexible identity system that makes it possible, and even easy, to automate the process of specifying sender name, address, and organization — per folder. Every folder in The Bat! can have a special, custom identity assigned to it that The Bat! will automatically use if you reply to a message in the folder or start a new email while the folder is open.

To specify a default identity for a folder in The Bat!:

  • Highlight the desired folder in the folder list.
  • Select Folder | Properties... from the menu.
  • Go to the Identity tab.
  • Enter the desired sender and reply-to information.
  • Click OK.

Note that specifying a different identity (naturally) only works for folders you have created. Inbox, Outbox, Sent Mail and Trash always use the account's default identity.
